A dark paneled library with a rolling ladder, sconces, and a velvet chair

Bookshelves

A library, built to the wall and to the books you own.

A shelf of books is heavier than people expect, and the mass-market answer bows within a year. Solid hardwood, the right thickness for the span, and joinery that carries the load are the whole difference.

A single case, a run of them, or floor to ceiling around a doorway, with the face frame, crown, and base drawn in your design tradition and scribed to the wall it lives against.

What the consultation decides

  • Height, width, and depth, built to your wall
  • Shelf span sized to the weight it will carry
  • Fixed or adjustable shelves
  • Face frame, crown, and base in your design tradition
  • Scribed to an out-of-square wall

Every piece is quoted on its own once the size, the species, and the base are settled.

Forms and species

  • Floor-to-ceiling dark hardwood library shelving filled with books
  • Leather-bound volumes on dark wood shelves
  • A two-storey library with a wooden gallery rail

How this one gets built

  1. 1

    Consultation

Before we do anything we want to understand you and your family's needs for whatever piece you have in mind. You may know exactly what you want right down to exact dimensions and style. Or you may just want something beautiful that fits your space. We can work with both.

  2. 2

    Design

This is where the fun begins. During this phase we will take the info from our consult and create a render or sketch of your piece of furniture. This is also when you pick out your wood species or slab, epoxy colors, legs, and the rest.

  3. 3

    Build

At this point, with approved drawings, we execute. A lot of care and craftsmanship goes into every single piece that leaves our shop. You are paying for gorgeous furniture that will outlast all of us. We take that seriously.

  4. 4

    Deliver

The most exciting moment in the process is when your new piece of furniture is out of our shop and sitting in your space for the first time. Most of our pieces leave Florida. Wherever the house is, it is crated in the shop and delivered white glove, and set in place.

Commission a bookcase.

A rough idea is enough to begin. You do not need dimensions, a drawing, or a species in mind. The consultation exists to settle all three, and nothing is quoted until you have approved a drawing.
